Mainline Return

In early 2009 175 was out shopped in BR Blue livery, having undergone an extensive program of bodywork restoration throughout 2008/2009. The loco looks stunning and is a testament to the dedication and effort of a small band of volunteers, with many a long day and night spent cutting, welding, sanding, filling and finally painting it.

The story doesn't end there however, and as spring dawned it became apparent that the loco was in need of a top end overhaul, this was started in April and is currently ongoing with the power unit stripped down and parts currently being overhauled and replaced. The ambition is to get 175 back on the mainline, the replacing of parts and fitting of all the safety systems (OTMR TPWS) needed for this doesn't come cheap, if you would like to help return 175 to the mainline and once again hear the loco attacking the climb to Corrour or echoing through the Monessie gorge why not support the restoration and mainlining project by either visiting our online shop or by making a donation to the loco's mainline fund.

Of course time is just as precious as finance so if you want to get involved why not Volunteer at Boness and help get this fine highland beast back where it belongs.
